A Simple 5-Step Starter Checklist to Bring You Back to Calm

If you’re feeling overwhelmed with all the wedding decisions — the Pinterest boards, the timelines, the opinions from friends and family — take a deep breath. You’re not alone.

Most of my couples feel exactly that way when they first reach out.

You’ve never done this before, and suddenly you’re expected to know how to plan the most important day of your life.
But here’s the truth:
You don’t need to figure it all out at once.
You just need to start with the right first steps.

That’s why I’ve created a simple 5-step Wedding Planning Starter Checklist — to help you slow down, stay focused, and feel like you again.

Step 1: Lock in the Who and the When

Before you dive into mood boards and dress styles, answer these two big questions:

  • Who are you inviting? (Think guest count range — not exact numbers yet.)
  • When do you want to get married? (Pick a season or a few ideal dates.)

This helps you set realistic expectations, plan your budget, and focus your energy.

Step 2: Choose Your Venue

Your venue sets the tone for everything — the style, the vibe, the light, the flow.
Do you want a waterfront ceremony in St. Pete? A romantic garden setting in Sarasota? A modern ballroom in downtown Tampa?

Once you know your guest count and date range, start venue tours and book your top choice as early as possible. Popular Florida wedding venues can book 12–18 months in advance!

Step 3: Book Key Vendors (Including Your Photographer!)

Start with the vendors who only take one wedding per day, like:

  • Photographer
  • Videographer
  • Planner
  • Caterer
  • Hair + makeup artists
  • Entertainment (DJ or band)

These dates fill quickly — especially during peak season in Tampa Bay (October–April). When couples reach out to me early, I’m able to help build the timeline and recommend other amazing vendors I love working with.

Step 4: Define the Look and Feel

Before diving into tiny details, think about how you want your day to feel.

Do you want a formal black-tie celebration? An intimate, romantic garden dinner? A bold, beachy vibe with tropical tones?

Once you have that core feeling, you can build your floral design, color palette, and decor around that emotion — not just what’s trending.

Step 5: Trust the Process (And the Pros)

You don’t need to plan every detail yourself. That’s why you hire experienced professionals — people who’ve done this hundreds of times and know how to create something that’s both beautiful and meaningful.

Let your vendors support you. Ask questions. Share your vision. Then allow yourself to step back and enjoy the experience.
